How to make an appointment

Routine Appointments

All consultations are by appointment only.  Please make an appointment by calling in, telephoning the surgery or using the e-Consult service on our website.  You may experience a little delay on Monday mornings as this is our busiest time. You will be asked by the Receptionist to give brief details of the problem and you may be offered a face to face appointment or a telephone consultation.

The practice provides appointment length of 12 minutes but longer appointments are available on request for patients who need more time.

If you feel you require longer appointment times or want to discuss multiple problems please request for a longer appointment time at the time of booking.

You can request to see a particular doctor, but you may have to wait longer for your consultation than if you are happy to see any GP.

Urgent Appointments

If you need to be seen urgently, please telephone or come into the surgery straight away. For an emergency/urgent problem you will be seen the same day.

Surgeries Running Late

Unfortunately sometimes surgeries run late due to GPs/nurses dealing with unforeseen medical emergencies.  These patients need to be seen straight away and a delay to patients with booked appointments is unavoidable.

However, we have noticed that an increasing number of patients are turning up significantly late for their appointments (over ten minutes late).  This has a “knock-on” effect on patients who have made the effort to attend promptly and are then unnecessarily delayed.

Consequently, it has been decided that any patient arriving more than ten minutes after their allotted appointment time (without a valid reason) will not be seen, and will be required to make another appointment.

Home Visits

Home visits are done at the discretion of the doctor.  If you are too unwell to attend the surgery please ensure your requests are made before 10.00am.  Please bear in mind that the doctor can see five patients in the surgery for every home visit and that often patients can be examined more thoroughly in the surgery.  If the patient has a temperature or a rash, coming to the surgery will do no harm and will not endanger others, but please inform the receptionist on arrival.  It helps us to judge the order of our calls if you describe the symptoms, so do expect to be asked.  Our receptionists have been specifically trained to do so and are not just being nosey for the sake of it!  You may be asked for your telephone number as sometimes all that is necessary is for the doctor to give you advice.

Night and Weekends

To contact a doctor out of hours, please contact 111.   Hywel Dda Local Health Board is responsible for commissioning this service.

Medical Students

From time to time medical students in their final year of training attend Meddygfa Emlyn to gain experience of working in primary care. You will always be notified of any students visiting the surgery and you have the choice whether they attend your consultation.
